On Thursday 26th March, 2009, ECO GROUP participated in the Second Wahiba Sand Cleaning Campaign (I am Very Green) in Bidya. ECO GROUP members participated in the cleaning session from 10 to 12 and then they gave a short lecture about using friendly bags with distributing some brochures about using less plastic. In the closing ceremony, ECO GROUP and its members were awarded certificates of appreciations with some gifts.

On Tuesday 24th March, 2009, ECO GROUP members visited Sultan Qaboos University to participate in the Agricultural Festival (Green Tide) organized by the College of Agriculture in Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). The group members visited the exhibition and attended some presentations and lectures about agriculture and the environment.

مجموعة مساندي البيئة تشارك في الأسبوع الثقافي بأدم
شاركت مجموعة مساندي البيئة في فعاليات الأسبوع الثقافي بولاية أدم والذي ينظمه نادي البشائر بالتعاون مع العديد من الجهات المختلفة. وقامت المجموعة بالمشاركة في المعرض بعرض كتب ومطويات عن المجموعة وقام الحضور بتوقيع أطول رسالة بيئية، كما قام أعضاء المجموعة بتمثيل جمعية البيئة العمانية في المعرض حيث أقامت حملة لا لأكياس البلاستيك والتي تنظمها الجمعية في العديد من مناطق السلطنة، مع عرض بعض المطويات التوعوية التي تصدرها الجمعية.واستمر الأسبوع : من 7 إلى 12 من الشهر الجاري.وفي حفل الختام تم تكريم المجموعة وأعضائها بشهادات تقدير وهدايا تذكارية لمشاركتهم الفعالة في الأسبوع

ECO GROUP participated in the Cultural Week (7-12 Feb 2009) organized by Al-Bashaer Club in Adam. The group members represented the Environment Society of Oman in No Plastic Campaign. They also showed some of their activities to the visitors. The Wali of Adam and the visitors signed the longest environmental petition. ECO GROUP and its members were awarded certificates of appreciation with some gifts for their participation in this event.

للحد من استخدام أكياس البلاستيك، وشارك أعضاء المجموعة مع أعضاء الجمعية يوم الجمعة 30 يناير 2009 في ولاية نزوى. كما قام

أعضاء المجموعة بتوزيع الأكياس الصديقة للبيئة للمستهلكين في مؤسسة روابي الجامع بولاية أدم، وقام مجموعة من الطلاب بشرح أهمية استخدام الأكياس الصديقة للبيئة وتجنب استخدام الأكياس البلاستيكية.

ECO GROUP has participated in (No To Plastic Bags For Oman) campaign organized by the Environment Society of Oman. On Friday January 30, 2009 the group's member participated in the campaign activities in Nizwa. On the next day they distributed some of the friendly bags to the customers in Rawabi Al-Jame Super Market, and some students educated the people about the importance of using the friendly bags.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs celebrated the Oman Environment Day on January 8th, 2009 which was held in Al-Sahwa Park and was attended by the Chairman of Muscat Municipality, many guests, environmentalists, teachers and students. Different activities were done in this celebration such as an environmental exhibition, planting trees, using friendly bags campaign and signing ECO GROUP longest environmental petition in the world. Many institutions participated in this event: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, Muscat Municipality, The Environment Society of Oman (ESO), The Art of Living society and of course ECO GROUP. ECO GROUP as usual was in the middle of the event with the great participation of the hardworking members who presented the group's activities to other people in the exhibition, helped to plant trees and invited people to sign the longest environmental petition in the world which has been created by the ECO GROUP. A nice gift from ECO GROUP was give to the Chairman of Muscat Municipality.

Monday, 8th January is our environmental day (Oman Environment Day) .As you know these days we have no school.Our students are on holidays .However, I liked to participate .I worked with some kids in my village and I raised their awareness about the environment day in Oman and we should all have part on this day.They were very happy to help.I told them about Eco-group and the members here will see how they participated .They asked me how they can participate. I told them they can help by cleaning the area around their houses.Thus they did it and I took some photos for them.I know it might not be what you expect but at least they know about this day.I wish you will enjoy watching these photos.

ECO Group has launched a campaign to use friendly bags which are made from friendly materials to the environment to reduce the use of plastic. The campaign was launched in Osama Bin Zaid School, and then we moved to other schools and some big shops in Adam. Rawabi Al-Jamae super market has promised to provide these bags to its customers with some monthly prizes. Note: Any school can participate in this campaign. Just email us.

Sheikh Said Bin Khalfan Al-Khalili School participated in ENo planting trees campaign.

Last week ECO Group members visited Kholof School for Basic Education on in Mohoot (the east coast).
We had a meeting with the school administration and staff to launch a campaign to clean up the beach and make the people and students aware of protecting the environment especially from plastic.

ECO Group celebrated Eid Al-Fiter by participating in Al-Bashaer club annual celebration. The Group's members participated as organizers and presenters. They distributed some gifts to the children. The group members also presented the first environmental play in Adam & Manah towns "Environment Friends" which was written by T. Salim Al-Busaidi, directed by T. Mahmoud Al-Kusaibi and performed by Hamed Al-Mahrooqi, Majdi Al-Mahrooqi, Muktar Al-Mahrooq, Majid Al-Asmi and Mohammed Al-Busaidi.

Two songs about the environment and a movie about ECO Group were presented in the celebration.

The environmental fine arts exhibition was opened by Mr. Hilal Al-Shaqsi, Director General of Al-Dakillia Directorate of Sport Affairs and Sheikh Sultan Al-Mahrooqi president of Al-Bashaer Club on 26th September, 2008. Many guests and students attended the opening ceremony.

This exhibition is the product of the environmental fine arts competition organized by ECO Group and Al-Bashaer Club between school students in Adam & Manah.
Students from 8 schools from Adam & Manah participated in the exhibition. They have used materials such as plastic, cds, batteries, bottles to make their wonderful works. The exhibition was designed by Teacher Ayman Khalil Ibrahim from Osama Bin Zaid School.

Exploiting and reusing such materials can help to save the environment.

Atika School Celebrates ENO Tree Planting Day

On the 22th of September 2008 we all gathered as a whole family to make our planet greener place. 21 students and 5 of Atika School English staff along with the headmistress and her assistant participated with the other 1500 schools from 120 countries to make our earth a better place. We all worked together to celebrate the planting day.
The celebration started two days ahead with giving different information about the importance of trees as source of life. Also, the classes were informed to bring plants with them to plant in the school garden.
The day of planting started as the students performed a play about our planet and later the headmistress talked about the importance of trees. One of the students gave a short speech regarding planting day. Then at the 12 pm, the students with the staff gathered to plant 25 mangoes trees. Hands together, , we used shovels to dig the moist soil and together we planted each tree. After planting the trees we watered them so these plants can grow up to be fruitful trees. It was so amazing to see how we all cooperated; teachers and students. We were all happy to be part of a great event as that. At the end we took a photo for all of us to remember this day for ever. We hope next year we will be part of it and we enrich our planet with more trees.

ECO Group Celebrates ENO Tree Planting Day

ECO-Group at Osama Bin Zaid School, Adam in Oman celebrated ENO Tree Planting Day on Monday 22nd September, 2008. The ceremony started with a recitation of the Holy Quran. Then, two students gave more information about the importance of trees and environment in Islam. The speech of the occasion was read by a student, and then another student translated it into Arabic. After that, the headmaster, the headmaster assistant, teachers and students planted some trees around the school. Others trees were distributed to the teachers and students in order to be planted at home, farms or any suitable places. The trees were date palms, papaya and Rol, and the total number of planted trees was 121.

We only have one planet. If each of us took good care for their environment we would have less problems.
لدينا عالم واحد، واذا قام كل واحد منا بالاهتمام الجيد بالبيئة سنقلل من مشاكل هذا العالم

Now it is a time for action. We do this special deed together with our peers around the world. We plant trees today with our friends in the North, South, East and West. The first trees were planted today on Tonga islands, Oceania. Then, following the Sun, trees are planted in Asia, Europe and Africa. The last trees will be put to Earth in the North and South America and very last of them on Hawaii and Samoa islands. Planet Earth has rotated on its axis and new tree babies have started to grow.
وقد حان الآن وقت العمل الذي نشترك في انجازه مع جميع أصدقائنا حول العالم، ففي هذا اليوم نقوم بزراعة الأشجار مع أصدقائنا في الشمال والجنوب وفي الشرق والغرب. وستكون بدايتنا لزراعة الأشجار اليوم من جزر تونجا في أوقيانوسيا، ومن ثم سنتبع الشمس لنقوم بزراعة الأشجار في كل من آسيا وأوروبا وأفريقيا، وستكون آخر محطاتنا في أمريكيا الشمالية وأمريكيا الجنوبية وفي هاواي وجزر ساموا، فاليوم بدأنا بزراعة كوكب الأرض بشكل تدريجي في مختلف محاوره، والكثير من الأشجار الصغيرة بدأت في النمو.
We are a one big family today. Teachers and students at about 1 500 schools in 120 countries are planting trees with us. Can you imagine, about 300 000 trees will be planted around the day? If schools can plant this number of trees a day how is with the others? We are showing our example to our community and country and hope to get this message through. Our planet has no passengers, we all are the crew.

نحن عائلة واحدة في هذا اليوم، فالمعلمون والطلاب فيما يقارب 1500 مدرسة في 120 دولة يقومون بزراعة الأشجار معنا، هل يمكنكم أن تتخيلوا أن حوالي 300,000 شجرة ستتم زراعتها اليوم؟
إذا استطاعت المدارس زراعة هذا العدد من الأشجار في يوم واحد، ألا يستطيع الآخرون أن يحذوا حذوهم؟ نحن بعملنا هذا نعطي مثالا لمجتمعاتنا ودولنا ونتمنى أن تصلهم رسالتنا، فنحن – لا غير- من يحدد مصير كوكبنا.

Our tree reminds us of nature and the importance of the environment. It is also a symbol of peace and caring. There is an English proverb that says "He who plants a tree loves others beside himself." Let's grow together with our trees for a better world!

أشجارنا تذكرنا بطبيعتنا وبأهمية بيئتنا، وهي أيضا رمز للسلام والاهتمام، وهناك مثل انجليزي يقول: " من يزرع شجرة يحب الآخرين كما يحب نفسه". فهيا معا نزرع أشجارنا من أجل عالم أفضل.

ECO Group invites you to take part in ENO Planting Trees Campaign

1- Each participant should register with the organizers.
2- He or she should plant one tree at least at home, school or any suitable place. More trees will be recommended.
3- After planting the trees, the participant informs the organizers about the number of trees he or she has planted and brings a picture (if possible) by 22/9/2008.
4- Some gifts will be distributed to the participants.
5- ECO-Group will write a report about the event to ENO TREE PLANTING CAMPAIGN and post it in iEARN forums.

يقوم المشارك بتسجيل اسمه ضمن المشاركين في الحملة مع المنظمين -1
2- يتعهد المشارك بزراعة شجرة واحدة (على الأقل) في بيته أو مزرعته أو أي مكان يراه مناسبا ويمكن له زراعة أكثر من شجرة حسب إمكانياته.
بعد زراعة الأشجار يقوم المشارك بإعلام المنظمين بعدد الأشجار التي زرعها -3 .

The Football Environment Cup Final was between Global Warming Fighters & Plastic Fighters. It was a great match.
At the end of the match Mr. Yaqoob Salim Al-Busaidi, President of Al-Jamae Team, distributed the prizes & medals to all players.

Here are the final results:

1- Global Warming Fighters got the Environment Cup and the Gold Medals.
2-Pollution Fighters got the Silver Medals.
3- Plastic Fighters got the Bronze Medals.
4- Rainforest Destruction Fighters got the Environment Prizes.

About 50 students participated in the environmental race organized by ECO Group & Al-Oroba Team in Adam and attended by the parliament (Shura) representative member in Adam, Mr. Nasser Bin Ali Al-Mahrooqi, Mr. Hamed Al-Busaidi from the ministry of the environment & climate affairs and many guests. It was a great race. We would like to thank Al-Oroba Team and all organizers for the great efforts to make the race a great success.

Mr. Hamed Al-Rawahi, an English teacher from Al-Sharqya Region, and his students have joined our group.

The longest environmental petition was supposed to be present in iEARN annual conference in Uzbekistan (12th- 19th July, 2008), but due to some circumstances the conference was canceled. The Omani delegation visited Turkey for about five days, so it was a chance to collect some signatures there. Some Turkish people and tourists signed the petition.

The longest Environmental Petition in the World

The longest environmental petition in the world aims to collect signatures and comments about conserving environment and spread awareness among people.

The longest environmental petition is a project which is meant to be an effectual way to bringing concern about the environmental issues among students, teachers and society individuals.

The idea of the project is to write a comment that encourages others to save and preserve the environment in our beloved Sultanate and in our planet. It also helps to make people aware of the current problems facing our environment nowadays such as global warming.

The motto of the project is (Take part and make a difference).

We started collecting signatures from Adam schools, and we have started moving to others schools from different regions. In our visit to Turkey, some Turkish people and tourists signed the petition. We hope to visit more countries to collect more signatures.

The football league to save the environment organized by ECO Group and Al-Jamea` Team will start on Saturday 9th August, 2008 between the students under Grade 10.
40 players in 4 groups will compete with each other to win the Environment Cup and Environment Medals.

Cleaning Campaign in the Valley of Halfeen

The valley of Halfeen is located in the east of Adam town, Oman. It is a beautiful place with many green trees. In addition, it is a good place for tourists. In the rain season, it is the best place for families to spend a lovely time swimming in the pools or having barbecue. As it is visited by many people, it should be kept always clean and tidy
Halfeen valley gets water from rains, so it is a good environment for many creatures like small fish, animals such as camels, goats, donkeys and birds. The valley is a good environment for desert trees too such as Simr, Sidr and Ghaf.Halfeen valley has lots of environmental problems and the most important problem is pollution because many people visit the valley and throw plastic bags and other waste items in it without caring about other creatures. Sometimes they use soap and other chemical materials in having baths or washing dishes. The Second problem is the bad habits of people like cutting trees and hunting which make some animals extinct.

On the 24th January, 2004 we had a cleaning campaign to clean this valley. Our team consisted of our teacher Salim Al-Busaidi, an active person in the field of environment, Hamed Al-Mahrooqi and ten students from Adam School for Basic Education. We arranged to clean it and keep it as a tidy place
We first informed the municipality in our town, and they provided us with the required equipment such as bags and gloves.
We gathered in the early morning, and drove for about 15 km. We divided ourselves into two groups. Each group had to walk for about 5 km along the valley to collect plastic bags and other rubbish. We were amazed when we saw the pools full of bottles and plastic bags.
We collected all waste and put them in special bags, and we collected about 45 bags and put them near the road in order to be carried by the municipality to the waste yard. While we were working we met some people who came to visit the valley. We talked to them about the importance of protecting the environment, and we gave them some bags to collect their waste after finishing their picnics. Some children joined us and helped to collect the waste items from nearby places. Some families invited us to join them to taste the delicious barbecue they were preparing. At 12.30, we had a delicious lunch under a big (Ghaf) tree, and we spent a lovely hour talking about different topics. At the end we drove back to our town.

Two days later a report about our campaign was published in a local newspaper, so we became very happy and inspired to see that what we had done is appreciated by society.
